When registering your child for kindergarten, an original birth certificate with a raised seal and proof of residency must be presented. In addition, the following must be presented prior to or at the time of kindergarten registration or screening: 1) proof of residency - two (2) of the following: tax bill, rental lease, current utility bill made out to you, etc. 2) proof of immunization against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, measles, mumps, rubella, polio (unless exempted for medical or religious reasons) 3) hepatitis B series 1, 2, and 3 4) varicella vaccine must be administered; or evidence that your child has had chicken pox 5) evidence of blood lead level screening
All children who will be entering kindergarten in September 2010 will be screened in June 2010. Each parent will receive screening information and a specific appointment later in the spring. If your health care provider has completed the required health forms, please submit them to the screening staff. It is important that the health forms be completed before the start of school. Please contact the school nurse at the school your child will attend if you have any questions. Kindergarten room assignments will not be made until all forms are completed. At the present time, the District has not made a decision regarding full day kindergarten for next year. It is recommended that everyone register their child at this time. An orientation will be scheduled during the week of August 31, 2010 to September 2, 2010, prior to regularly scheduled classes, when you may bring your child to meet his/her assigned kindergarten teacher in a classroom setting. This is designed to provide every child a comfortable transition from the home to school setting while affording you the opportunity to become acquainted with the teacher. If you plan to enter your child in private kindergarten, please notify the principal of the school where your child would have attended in order that we keep our records as accurate as possible. Children who are entering private kindergarten are encouraged to participate in the screening process as required by law. An open house will be held and an overview of the kindergarten program will be reviewed. The overview will include: bus transportation, health services, special education screening, and the general kindergarten curriculum.
